Bio
I am a mixed race Japanese-Canadian spouse, parent of multi-racial adult children, and retired college professor committed to anti-oppressive, feminist, trauma-informed, and harm-reduction values.
My experience teaching English as a Second / Other Language for 30+ years, in Japan and Canada, acquainted me with academic, newcomer/settlement, and expat concerns. I also specialize in supporting individuals:
- experiencing burnout from work and/or providing care to children, parents or other loved ones.
- justice-involved individuals and their allies dealing with emotional and psychological issues related to involvement in the criminal justice system.
- allies impacted by the mental health challenges of their loved ones as a facilitator of Mental Health First Aid and Family Connections(TM) courses.
My training as a psychodynamic psychotherapist includes doing “the work” myself in 300+ hours of individual and group therapy. This experience ensures that I can support you safely and effectively; helps me appreciate your vulnerability, effort, and progress; and equips me to share the best of the many approaches, tools, and strategies I’ve encountered.
