Hello there! My name is Joash Koh. Deciding to seek professional help is often unnerving and disquieting. Amidst life’s adversities, it becomes daunting to solicit support, be it from our dearest ones more so even an unfamiliar individual. However, professional therapy can provide the help and guidance we need. It’s okay to acknowledge that we require support and assistance during difficult times. As the eldest son (and first grandson) of a Chinese patriarch culture from Malaysia, I was once apprehensive about therapy too. My epiphany came only a few years back, during a particularly tumultuous chapter of my life. This challenging time offered me indispensable life lessons acquired through reading, meditation, introspection, and professional help. My personal journey with therapy educated me that it serves as a sanctuary where clarity, hope, resilience, and motivation can be unearthed and fortified. In a similar vein, my goal as your therapist is to provide a secure haven where you can initiate your healing journey, working towards therapeutic objectives utilizing your personal resources and unique capabilities. As Irvin Yalom once said, “Only the wounded healer can truly heal.”

I graduated from Trevecca Nazarene University with a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and a master’s degree in Pastoral Counseling from Malaysia. I am currently in pursuit of my doctorate at the University of Tennessee. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (TN pre-licensed), Certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist, and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional.

My spouse and I have been together since our college days over two decades ago, and we tied the knot in 2009. We enjoy hiking, binge-watching the latest TV shows, and cooking meals together. We’re both passionate about food and constantly on the lookout for new and exciting dining options in Knoxville. If you have any favorite restaurants, please don’t hesitate to share them with me. You may find me watching cooking tutorials, catching up on my favorite manga series, or browsing social media when I’m not in your company.
