Hi, I’m Dr. Caroliina Ying! I am a Licensed Psychologist in TX, and I graduated with my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Texas A&M University.
I’m someone who has moved around many times in my life and experienced many different environments. This means that my cultural background and identity is more complex than a few simple descriptions. It’s partly because of these personal experiences that I highly value the importance of cultural factors when working with clients.
In therapy, I aim to build a collaborative, empowering relationship together and hope that you feel safe to explore a variety of concerns. I try to understand each client holistically, which includes your cultural context and other things that you consider an important part of who you are.
I believe that by changing the way you think, you can change the way you behave and feel. At the same time, it’s important to pay attention to our emotions and what they are trying to tell us so we can meet our emotional needs. I also believe therapy can be a space that helps you recognize & modify patterns of relating with others that have kept you stuck.
I integrate multiple theoretical orientations in my work, mostly drawing on cognitive behavioral theory (CBT), interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT), positive psychology, and existential theory. Some areas that I focus on include: anxiety concerns, cultural/ethnic issues, relationship issues, grief/bereavement, trauma, depression, religion/spirituality, obsessive compulsive concerns, and career concerns. I primarily work with adults (18+). I can provide services in both English and Mandarin.
