Cynthia Yoo, Registered Psychologist

Sex/Gender: Female
Pronouns: She / Her
Ethnicity: Chinese

Hi, my name is Cynthia and I am originally from Hong Kong, China. I was raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, and encountered many obstacles as a first-generation, Chinese-Canadian female. With a passion for supporting people from diverse backgrounds and with diverse needs, I completed a Bachelor and Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology at the University of British Columbia. I moved to Calgary in 2012 and became a Registered Psychologist in Alberta in 2019.

Throughout my career, I have worked in school and community-based settings, as well as provided in-home support to individuals and families in need. My early training involved supporting immigrant children, youth, parents, and families struggling with cultural issues, parent-child conflict, trauma, abuse, stress, and personal identity. When I relocated to Calgary, I gained additional training to provide counselling, psychoeducation, and consultation services to a variety of individuals in support of children and youth diagnosed with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Learning Disabilities. I am passionate about supporting children and youth struggling with emotional, mental, behavioral, social, and functional challenges – as well as adults and parents who are encountering these struggles themselves or with the children in their care. My additional specializations include anxiety, depression, anger, and self-esteem.

If you feel overwhelmed, exhausted, lost, or discouraged – you are not alone. I offer warmth, curiosity, and compassion as I strive to honor your unique background, values, resources, and inner wisdom. In the safety and privacy of counselling, I can support and guide you to self-reflect, make informed decisions, and take purposeful action toward your meaningful goals. With new insight and strategies, you can be empowered to address, manage, and/or resolve your struggle with more clarity and confidence. If you are curious about what I have to offer, you can email me to set up a free 15-30 minute consultation. This will give us a chance to get to know each other a little bit and for me to answer any questions you may have. I welcome the opportunity to hear from you.
